Equality Campaign

Here a brief overview of the aims for the USI Equality Campaign over the coming year. Please leave any comments, constructive criticism and/or suggestions.

Its your campaign – you tell us what to do!

Disability Campaign:

  • To raise awareness among students of their rights and among lecturers of their responsibilities under current legislation;
  • To lobby for more funding to be allocated to the fund for Students with Disabilities;
  • To build links with organisation who support young people with disabilities.

Gender Equality Campaign:

  • To fight for full reproductive justice for women in Ireland;
  • To highlight the issue of domestic violence in youth relationships;
  • To promote women in decision making positions and to empower young women to run for election to these positions.

International Students Campaign:

  • To represent the international student population to all relevant bodies in the drafting of new immigration and visa proposals, in line with USI policy;
  • To increase the number of international students involved in representation structures in local student unions through empowerment and education;
  • To lobby for a better deal for International Graduates under the Third Level Graduate Scheme for non EEA students.

LGBT Campaign:

  • To lobby for the introduction of civil marriage for lesbian and gay couples, which includes the right to raise a family;
  • To highlight the issue of increasing mental health issues among the LGBT community;
  • To inform the LGBT Community of the issues surrounding illegal drug use and abuse of alcohol.

Mature Students Campaign:

  • Build links between the USI Mature Students Campaign and Access Programmes around the country;
  • Set up a peer support network specifically for Mature Students;
  • To lobby for an increase in affordable childcare for students on campus.
